Jason van Wyk – TranceSound Festival 2011

Born 10 January 1990 in Cape Town, South Africa, Jason van Wyk has been rapidly building himself a name in the worldwide Electronic Dance Music scene over the last few years.

Being an all rounded musician, playing a variety of instruments and composing and producing in various genres, he signed his first single at the age of fourteen and had his club debut as a DJ at the age of thirteen. So it comes as no surprise that he’s constantly able to provide an intense level of detail, depth and musical ability in every track he does, producing a unique sound that will rock any dance floor as well as providing a deep and engaging listening experience, Jason’s tracks have captured the interest of listeners around the world and some of the biggest names in the dance music scene.

With support for his original productions and remixes from leading artists in the scene, such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold, Markus Schulz, Rank 1, Sander van Doorn, First State, Cosmic Gate, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Dash Berlin and many more, its quite clear he’s firmly making his mark on the international circuit.

Working under aliases and pseudonyms in his early years as a producer, 2008 marked the release of his first single under his own name entitled “Imagine”, which was released on the German label, Redux Recordings. A year later his collaboration with Dutch duo Vast Vision titled “Oceanblue” was released on the UK label Alter Ego Recordings, which received worldwide support and appeared on numerous compilation CD’s from DJ’s such as Aly & Fila, George Acosta and Abbot & Chambers, not to mention play listed on countless radio shows including Tiesto’s ‘Club Life’.

2009 showed his production and musical skills once again with his third single, and second on the Redux label, “Far From Me”, a deep melodic Trancer that received rave reviews and was licensed to Armada Music after which was seen play listed by Armin van Buuren on his ‘A State of Trance’ radio show.
2010 has so far been Jason’s busiest year yet. Starting the year out with two tracks, “Always” & “Once Again” being his first release of an exclusive deal with the renowned Black Hole Recordings label.
The release saw 5 star reviews and “Once Again” was featured on Cosmic Gate’s 4th volume of their “Back2Back” CD series. Another new single was signed shortly after, titled “September Rain”, which was featured on volume 8 of the prolific “In Search Of Sunrise” series.

His next single “Dream On”, was then released on Black Hole’s newest sublabel – First State Music. Launching the label, the track was awarded a 5/5 rating by Tiesto and was seen supported by Above & Beyond on their ‘Trance Around The World’ radio show two weeks in a row, by Armin van Buuren on ‘A State of Trance’, by Sander van Doorn on his weekly ‘Identity’ show, and was then licensed to vol. 16 of the “In Trance We Trust” compilation series as well as Max Graham’s “Cycles vol. 2” compilation.

On the performing front, Jason has been highly in demand over the recent years as a DJ and live performer. Playing along side acts such as Cosmic Gate, Ferry Corsten, First State, Andy Duguid, Julie Thompson and Richard Durrand, just to name a few.

Working full time as a music producer and performer, with his music being released and licensed to labels such as Warner, Sony, Black Hole, Armada, Lost Language, Spinnin’, Alter Ego and Media, not to mention an exclusive publishing deal with the prestigious Cloud 9 Music group and his first artist album in the making, things are definitely going strong in the world of Jason van Wyk.

At 21 years old, Jason van Wyk is one of the brightest things to happen in electronic music within the last decade.

This talented South African, Cape Town born Producer / DJ has sky rocketed in the last few years with his creative and forward thinking approach to music. Playing alongside and having his music supported by the industry greats such as Armin van Buuren (A State of Trance), Tiesto (Club Life), Above & Beyond (Trance Around The World) Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold, Sander van Doorn and many, many more.

Doing work for internationally acclaimed labels such as Sony, Warner and Black Hole to name a few, with remix credits to his name from artists such as Grammy award nominee BT, Kirsty Hawkshaw and First State, with music being written, licensed and co-written for various media outlets throughout the world, this young man is as focused and dedicated as they come to what he does best.

Starting his professional career at the age of 13 with his first club debut performance and being offered his first record deal for his first original production at age 14, it’s been clear from the start where this young man’s life has been set to go.

Coming from a classical background, with family in the London Philharmonic orchestra and his mother being a classical pianist and music teacher, it’s evident in his work where his musicality lies. His emotional, deep, uplifting and often melancholic melodies, his attention to detail and the versatility in the genres and styles he produces showcase his sheer talent when it comes to his art and that he’s as happy producing melodic and laid back records as he is producing a full on club hit.

New singles, collaborations and remixes are in the works as well as Jason’s first studio album aiming for an early release next year. Things are definitely going strong in the world of Jason van Wyk.
